Fix BPMN editor problems

Four things account for nearly every BPMN editor question, and one of them is a deliberate design decision rather than a fault.

AI cannot write BPMN for you. It is an XML format with strict semantics and diagram interchange geometry, and generated output is not reliably valid.

#What this is for

  • A canvas that opens empty.

  • Warnings after importing a process.

  • A properties panel too narrow to use.

#How it works

Action

How

Empty canvas

A new diagram starts with a single start event. If even that is missing, reload the page.

Import warnings

Usually vendor extensions the editor does not use.

Cramped properties panel

Drag its edge. Several property groups need the extra width.

AI will not generate BPMN

By design. Use the editor, or model it as a flowchart first.

Editor will not load

Hard reload, then a private window to rule out extensions.

#A few things that catch people out

  • If you want AI help with a process, generate a Mermaid flowchart and model the BPMN from it.

  • Import warnings are informational. Check the process still simulates correctly and move on.

  • Broader symptoms are in Troubleshooting.

Simulate it before you publish it.
