Clickable diagrams
An architecture diagram where each service links to its own page is worth more than the same diagram plus a list of links underneath.
#What a shape can link to
Target | Use for |
|---|---|
A Confluence page | Service, component or team pages |
A Jira issue | The work behind a component |
Any URL | Dashboards, runbooks, repositories |
#How to
In the draw.io editor, select a shape and set its link. The shape becomes clickable wherever the diagram renders.
Links survive export to a published site. A clickable architecture diagram stays clickable for your readers. See Integrations.
#A few things that catch people out
Links are a draw.io feature. Text-based languages generally cannot carry them.
A link to a page the reader cannot see will not work for them, and it will not say why.
Relative links are safer than absolute ones, which break when a site is renamed.
