Frequently asked questions about Confluence calendars

Short answers to the questions we hear most, each with a link to the page that explains it properly.

#Events on the calendar

#What does +N more on a day mean?

The day has more events than fit in its box. Select +N more to open a list of every event that day, then select one to open it; the list closes by itself. See Calendar views.

#Why does a date I typed on a page not appear on the calendar?

A date chip on a line by itself has no text to name the event, so it is called Unknown and left off every calendar. Add some words on the same line, or use an Event macro. See Date chip on a line by itself never appears on any calendar.

#Why can I not add or change events?

Your Confluence permissions on the space or page decide it, and built-in calendars such as Recently viewed pages are always read-only. On a Calendar macro, Event editing must also be on. See Cannot create or edit events in a shared calendar.

#Why do signed-out visitors see fewer events?

Saved calendar events load only for signed-in readers. Signed-out visitors see just the dates written on the page. See Signed-out visitor sees a calendar that looks complete but is missing events.

#Can I create a repeating event?

No. Each event is a single occurrence, so create one event per occurrence. A repeating event in an imported .ics file comes in as its first occurrence only. See Repeating meeting in my subscribed calendar app only appears once.

#Subscribing from other calendar apps

#Why is there no Subscribe to calendar button?

It is hidden when you are signed out, when the calendar is built from page dates rather than saved, or when a site admin has turned off Calendar subscriptions. See Subscribe button is missing from a calendar.

#How long until an edit shows in Google Calendar or Outlook?

Changes usually reach your subscribed calendar app within 5 to 15 minutes. If it has been more than 15 minutes, refresh the calendar in your app. See Feed freshness and Edited an event but my phone's calendar has not updated.

Anyone who has the link can read the feed, so treat it like a password. If it leaks, revoke it and create a new one. See Feed security.

No. A revoked link stops working for good. Create a new link and add it to your calendar app in place of the old one. See Revoked link cannot be un-revoked.

#For site admins

#Where do I manage calendar subscriptions for the whole site?

Open the Calendar sidebar and select Global settings at the end of the Manage group. It is shown to site admins only and has two tabs: Features, to turn Calendar subscriptions on or off, and Subscriptions, to see and revoke links. See Manage calendar subscriptions for your Confluence site.

Turning the feature off stops new links being created. Links already handed out keep working until you select Revoke all. See Turned off the "Calendar subscriptions" feature but existing links still work.

#What does Could not load calendar subscriptions mean?

The list failed to load for a reason other than permissions, usually a passing network problem. Select Retry. You see Confluence admin permissions required only when you are not a site admin. See Personal iCal subscription.
