Colour-code events on a Confluence calendar

To colour-code events on a Confluence calendar, open the calendar's settings, go to the Tags tab and add tags such as Release or Holiday, each with a colour. Tag your events and they take that colour. An event's own Color wins over its tags, and untagged events follow the calendar's colour scheme.

#Before you start

  • You need edit rights on the calendar to change its tags.

  • Tags belong to one saved calendar. Each calendar has its own list.

#Set up tags

  1. Open the calendar and select Configure calendar (the cog) at the top right. You see it only if you can edit the calendar.

  2. Select the Tags tab.

  3. Select New Tag, type the Tag name and pick a colour.

  4. Drag tags into order. When an event has several tags, the highest tag in the list sets its colour.

  5. Select Save.

#Tag an event

  1. Open an event and select Edit, or create a new one.

  2. On the Tags tab, select one or more tags from the calendar's list.

  3. Select Save Changes.

#A few things that catch people out

  • A tag already used by events cannot be renamed. You can still change its colour.

  • The macro's Colours setting offers By user, By type and None. Colouring by page is only on the saved calendar's Color Scheme.

  • Readers can show only some tags with Filter events in the calendar toolbar.
