Control who can add events to a Confluence calendar

Who can add events to a Confluence calendar is decided by Confluence permissions on the calendar, which follow the space it is saved in. People with edit rights there can add and change events; people with view rights can only read. On a page, the Calendar macro also needs Event editing on before anyone can add events from it.

#Before you start

  • You need to be a space administrator to change space permissions.

  • There is no separate list of calendar editors inside Capable Calendar.

#Steps

  1. Save the calendar in a space whose members should be able to edit it. For a site-wide calendar, use Global calendars.

  2. In Space settings, give edit rights to the people who should add events, and view rights to everyone who should only read.

  3. To stop readers adding events from a particular page, edit that page, open the Calendar macro and turn Event editing off.

  4. Ask someone with view rights only to open the calendar and click a day. They should be told they do not have permission to create events.

#A few things that catch people out

  • Capable checks permissions every time someone uses the calendar, so a change takes effect straight away.

  • Built-in calendars, such as Recently viewed pages and Mentions, are always read-only.

  • Subscription links are personal and read-only. Someone removed from a space may still see the feed for a short while; see Feed security.

Edit rights in the space, edit rights on the calendar.
