Set up redirects for a published Confluence site

To set up redirects for a Confluence site published with Capable Sites, open the site's Settings, choose Redirects and select Add redirect. Enter the old path and the new path, pick 301 permanent or 302 temporary, and select Save changes. To paste many rules at once, use Edit as text. Redirects go live on your next Update and Promote.

#Before you start

  • You need to be a Confluence admin or a collaborator on the site.

  • List the old URLs and the page each should go to. The new path is the space slug then the page slug, such as /docs/getting-started.

  • You do not need rules for pages you renamed in Confluence. Changed page addresses redirect on their own.

#Steps

  1. Open Capable, choose Sites, open your site, and select Settings, then the Redirects card.

  2. Select Add redirect.

  3. Type the old path on the left, such as /old-page, and the new path on the right.

  4. Choose 301 permanent or 302 temporary.

  5. For a long list, select Edit as text and paste one rule per line, such as literal /old-page /docs/new-page permanent.

  6. Select Save changes.

  7. On the site's Overview, select Update, wait for it to finish, then select Promote.

  8. Open an old URL on the live site and check it lands on the new page.

#If it does not work

  • Save changes is greyed out with Redirect rules are too long to save. Your rules are over 100,000 characters. The count shows how far over you are.

  • A row shows Incomplete. It needs both paths before it is saved.

  • A line is marked Unrecognised rule format, kept as-is. Check it follows literal /from /to permanent or /from /to 301.

  • The old URL still shows the old page. You saved but did not run Update and Promote.

Old links, new pages, nothing broken.
