Saving Access settings fails with a generic error
What you are seeing
You change a site's Access settings, select Save changes, and get a Failed to save message instead of Access settings saved. They apply immediately.
The error used to be generic. It now names the reason underneath, so start by reading it and finding it in the table below.

Only changes to who can get in count towards the hourly limit: a new mode, password, list of domains, accounts or organisations, session length, or Sign everyone out. Editing the site title or theme no longer uses it up.
Some problems stop you saving at all. The Save changes button is greyed out, and hovering over it tells you why, for example Set a password to enable password protection, Password must be at least 8 characters or Choose who may sign in.
#What to do
For the hourly limit, keep the Access page open, wait up to an hour, then select Save changes again.
For a change that did not reach the site, select Save changes again straight away.
If you have already left the page, the form now shows what you stored and Save changes is greyed out. A Confluence admin can send the stored settings to the site with Sign everyone out, which also signs visitors out.
For a permission message, ask a Confluence admin to make the change.
