Hide a page from search engines

To hide a page on a published Confluence site from search engines, open the site in Capable Sites, choose Pages, select the page, open More details and tick Hide from search engines (noindex). Select Save metadata, then Update and Promote. The page stays on your site for visitors, but search engines are asked not to list it.

#Before you start

  • You need to be a Confluence admin or a collaborator on the site.

  • If nobody should see the page at all, keep it off the site with the capable-sites-exclude label instead.

  • Protected and staging sites are never indexed anyway, so this only matters on a public live site.

#Steps

  1. Open Capable, choose Sites, open your site and choose Pages.

  2. Select the page. Its Page metadata panel opens on the right.

  3. Open More details.

  4. Tick Hide from search engines (noindex). Tick Don't follow links on this page (nofollow) as well if you want.

  5. Select Save metadata.

  6. On the site's Overview, select Update, then Promote.

#What happens next

The page carries a noindex instruction, and search engines drop it the next time they visit. It is still on the site, in the site's own search and in its sitemap, and anyone with the link can open it.

On the site, off the search results.
