An image or feed will not load
A macro that fetches something from outside Confluence, an image, an RSS feed, an embedded page, can only reach domains an administrator has approved.
Without approval the browser is not allowed to make the request, and the macro shows a placeholder.

Approving a domain is a security decision. The reader's browser then connects to that host directly. Approve only domains you control or trust.

Attachments are the safest image source and survive publishing to a site cleanly.
An approved domain applies site-wide, not per space.
Anonymous readers see less than you do. Test while logged out.
