Create a table you can sort and filter in Confluence

To create a table you can sort and filter in Confluence, insert the Table & Charts (Capable) macro and put an ordinary Confluence table inside its body. Readers can then click a column header to sort, filter from the column menu, type in Search to find rows, and page through long tables. The data stays a normal table anyone can edit.

#Before you start

  • You need permission to edit the page.

  • Capable Formatting, or the Capable suite, must be installed on your Confluence site.

  • Grouping, pivots, charts and Excel export need the Capable suite. Sorting, filtering, search, paging and CSV export work everywhere.

  • Data in a CSV file attached to the page? Use Table & Charts (CSV) (Capable) instead and pick the file.

#Steps

  1. Open the page in the editor, type /table and choose Table & Charts (Capable), or Table & Charts macro (Capable) in the standalone app.

  2. In the panel, choose a Page size. Turn on Auto-size columns or set header colours if you want them, then close the panel.

  3. Click inside the macro body and insert a Confluence table, or paste one from a spreadsheet.

  4. Use the first row for column names. The macro always treats the first row as the header.

  5. Fill in the rows and publish the page.

  6. On the published page, click a column header to sort, open the column menu to filter, or type in Search to find rows.

#What happens next

Every reader gets the same interactive grid, and can resize, reorder and hide columns or export the rows from Export without edit rights. To change the data, edit the table inside the macro body as you would any Confluence table. In the suite, Save view keeps a grouping, pivot or chart arrangement on the page for later readers.

Still a Confluence table. Now readers can work with it.
