Add buttons to a Confluence page

To add buttons to a Confluence page, insert the Buttons (Capable) macro, give each button a Title, and set its Type to URL or Page so it links somewhere. Add more with Add button, pick colours and sizes under Style, and choose whether the group sits in a row or a column.

#Before you start

  • You need permission to edit the page.

  • Capable Formatting, or the Capable suite, must be installed on your Confluence site.

  • If your administrator has set brand themes, the colour pickers offer them first.

#Steps

  1. Open the page in the editor, type /buttons and choose Buttons (Capable), or Buttons macro (Capable) in the standalone app.

  2. On the Content tab, expand the first button and enter its Title. Pick an Icon if you want one.

  3. Set Type: URL and fill in the URL field, or Page and search for the page in the Page picker.

  4. Click Add button for each further button. Drag the handles to change their order.

  5. Open Style under a button to choose its Variant, Size, Corners, Fill and Label colours.

  6. Under Layout, set the group's Alignment, Direction and Gap. Under Links, choose whether Open links uses a new tab or the same tab.

  7. Close the panel and publish the page.

#If it does not work

  • A button does nothing when clicked. Its Type is None, which gives you the look without a link. Change it to URL or Page.

  • An older Buttons macro lost its page link in the editor. Macros saved by an early version stored the page differently. Since 18 October 2026 they open with every button and page link intact, so open the macro again and save it.

An obvious next step beats a link buried in a sentence.
