Fix Microsoft Teams approval messages not arriving
Microsoft Teams support is coming soon.
If Confluence approval messages are not reaching somebody in Microsoft Teams, the usual causes are that their Confluence and Microsoft 365 email addresses differ, they switched Teams notifications off, they cannot read the page, or your site connected Teams before 21 October 2026 and needs reconnecting. Work through the checks below in order.
#Before you start
You need | Why |
|---|---|
A Confluence site administrator | For the checks in Global settings. |
The person who is missing messages | To check their own notification switches. |
#Checks, in order
In Global settings, on the Notifications tab, check the Microsoft Teams card shows Connected and Microsoft Teams integration is on.
If Teams was connected before 21 October 2026, turn the connect switch off, then on again.
Check the person's Confluence email matches their Microsoft 365 email. If they differ, no message is sent and nothing says so.
Ask them to check Send me Microsoft Teams notifications is on, under Notifications in the Approval sidebar.
Make sure they can read the page. People who cannot are skipped silently.
The first message to somebody can take up to a minute, while Capable adds the app for them.
#Messages arrive but there are no buttons
An administrator has not turned on Microsoft Teams approval actions.
The space requires an authenticator code to approve, which a Teams button cannot collect. See Sign approvals with a code.
Buttons only ever appear on requests, never on the message saying something was approved or rejected.
