Publish Confluence pages from a draft space to a live space

To publish Confluence pages from a draft space to a live space, open the draft space's Publishing Space settings, turn on Enable publishing, pick the live space as the Target space, choose how pages are arranged on the Structure tab, and save. Then publish pages one at a time or all at once.

#Before you start

You need

Why

Space administrator of the draft (source) space

Only source space administrators see Space settings.

Space administrator of the live (target) space

You can only choose a target space you administer.

A live space that already exists

Publishing copies into an existing space; it does not create one.

#Steps

  1. Open the space and select Capable Publishing in the sidebar (in the Suite, Capable, then Publishing). Under Manage, select Space settings.

  2. On the Setup tab, choose the live space under Target space, then turn on Enable publishing.

  3. Leave Allow manual publishing on so people can publish from the page byline. Turn on Require comment on publish if every publish needs a reason.

  4. On the Structure tab, set Parent content if pages should go under one page, and choose Preserve hierarchy to mirror the page tree. Check the Preview.

  5. Select Save.

  6. Publish a page from its Publishing byline item, or publish everything with Publish all on the Maintenance tab.

#What happens next

Each publish is a copy of the page, with its attachments and labels, in the live space. The copy keeps a link back to the source, so when the draft is edited it shows as Outdated and you can update the live copy in one click. Readers use the live space, and work in progress stays in the draft space.

Draft in one space, publish to another.
