Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions people ask most about publishing Confluence pages to another space. Each answer links to the page with the detail.
#Can I schedule a Confluence page to publish at a set time?
No. There is no scheduled or timed publishing. Pages publish when someone selects Publish, when an approval is approved with Publish on approval on, or in a bulk run.
#How many pages can one bulk publish handle?
Every matching page, however many. Since 19 October 2026 a run pages through the whole search instead of stopping at 250 or 1,000 pages. The Dashboard tooltips still say Limited to 1000 pages, which is out of date. See Bulk publish Confluence pages.
#Do I have to publish parent pages before child pages?
Not any more. A manual publish offers to publish the parent pages first with Publish page tree?. An approved page whose parent is not published yet goes under its nearest published ancestor and moves under its parent once that is published. See Publish on approval.
#Will Publishing move pages I rearranged by hand in the target space?
No. It only moves pages and folders that sit where it put them. Anything you moved by hand, and any folder you made yourself that it reused by title, stays where it is.
#Are page restrictions copied to the published page?
No. A restricted source page becomes an unrestricted page in the target space. Restrict the published copy by hand if it needs it. See Restricted source page was published and now anyone in the target space can read it.
#Why does a link on a published page open the source space?
The linked page had not been published when the page was. Publish the linked page, then republish the page that links to it. See the troubleshooting page.
#Does anyone get told when a publish fails?
No. Capable sends no notification when a publish fails. Check the Failed and Invalid lists on the Publishing space page, or the Audit log for bulk runs. See Find and retry Confluence pages that failed to publish.
#Why is a page I just published missing from the Published list?
The lists and counts come from Confluence search, which takes a little while to catch up. The byline shows Content not yet indexed until it does. See the troubleshooting page.
#Can blog posts be published?
Blog posts are never included in bulk runs, and edits to them are not detected, so a published blog post never goes Outdated. Publishing is built for pages and folders.
#Who can publish a page?
Anyone who can edit the page, when Allow manual publishing is on, and who is in the Allowed publishers list if Restrict publish permissions is on. Bulk runs need a space administrator of both the source and the target space.
#I turned on Restrict publish permissions but everyone can still publish. Why?
The restriction only applies once at least one person is in the Allowed publishers list. See Restrict who can publish Confluence pages.
#Can one space publish to more than one target space?
No. Each source space has one target space. Changing it disconnects the existing links. See Change the target space for Confluence publishing.
#Does Clear state delete the published copy?
No. It only removes the link between the source page and its copy. Delete the copy in the target space by hand if you no longer need it.
#Where did Audit Log and Settings go?
They were renamed on 14 October 2026. Audit Log is now Audit log, and Settings is now Space settings, both under Manage on the Publishing space page.
