Limits
Publishing has few hard limits, and most of them are generous. These are the ones worth knowing before you plan a large rollout.
#Every limit
Limit | Value | What happens |
|---|---|---|
Publish comment | 500 characters | The comment field will not accept more. With Require comment on publish on, a comment is also required. |
Allowed publishers | 50 people | You cannot add more on the Permissions tab. Space administrators can always publish and do not need to be listed. |
Target spaces per source space | 1 | Changing the target disconnects the existing links. See Change the target space for Confluence publishing. |
Pages in one bulk run | Every matching page | A run lists the space 250 results at a time on the server. Since 19 October 2026 there is no 250 or 1,000 page cut-off. A run only stops listing if Confluence search keeps returning the same results, or if more than 250,000 pages match, and then it fails with a message in the Audit log rather than publishing part of the space. |
Content in bulk runs | Pages and folders | Blog posts are never included in bulk runs. |
Maintenance tasks at once | 1 per space | Publish all, Publish approved, rebuilds and cleanups wait for each other. The buttons say Cannot publish while a maintenance task is running. |
Moving pages into place after a publish | About 1 minute, retried after 5, 10 and 15 minutes | With Preserve hierarchy, pages that were published before their parent move under it once it is published. If Confluence was slow, the check tries again. |
Stuck runs | 30 minutes | A Confluence administrator can select Clean Stuck in the Audit log to mark runs queued for longer than this as failed. |
The Dashboard button tooltips still say Limited to 1000 pages. That limit no longer applies.
#A few things worth knowing
Lists and counts on the Publishing space page come from Confluence search, so they can lag a few minutes behind.
Only one target space per source space, but a target space can receive pages from several source spaces.
There is no scheduled publishing, so there is no limit on how often a page can be republished.
