Each person can turn their own Capable emails off. There is no per-space and no per-type option: it is all of them or none.

Email sits next to separate switches for Slack and Microsoft Teams. Each one is independent, and the scope of the email switch is the part worth reading.

#What the switch covers

  • All Capable email for you, across every capability. In practice that means Approval.

  • It does not affect Slack or Microsoft Teams messages. Those have their own switches beside it.

  • It is scoped to one app installation on one site.

#Turning email off for everyone

A Confluence site administrator can turn email off for the whole site with the Email notifications switch on the Email card of the Notifications tab in Global settings. It overrides everyone's personal switch. Admins can reach the tab from Manage notifications in their Capable settings.

When an administrator has turned email off, the Approval Notifications page says so, and your own switch cannot be changed.

#A few things that catch people out

  • Email is sent from a Capable address with Reply-To set to the requester, so replies reach a person rather than a void.

  • Turning email off does not stop you being added as an approver. It stops you hearing about it by email.

  • Somebody running both the suite and a standalone Approval app has to turn email off in each.
