Hide a Capable feature from users
To hide a Capable capability from everyone, a Confluence site administrator opens Global settings, selects the Capabilities tab and switches the capability to Hidden. It disappears from the Capable navigation, the byline and the command palette. To hide it in one space only, a space administrator sets it to Never in Capable's space settings.
#Before you start
You want to | Who and where |
|---|---|
Hide a capability everywhere | Site administrator, Capabilities tab in Global settings |
Hide a capability in one space | Space administrator, Capable in the space's settings, under Integrations |
Switch off a feature, such as AI or calendar subscriptions | Site administrator, Features tab in Global settings |
Hiding is not disabling. A hidden capability's macros stay in the insert menu, and macros already on pages keep rendering. To stop something working, use its switch on the Features tab where there is one.
#Steps
Open Global settings for Capable in Confluence administration.
Select the Capabilities tab.
Find the capability and switch it to Hidden. It saves straight away.
To switch off a feature instead, select the Features tab and turn off its switch, for example AI integrations or Calendar subscriptions.
#What happens next
Other people see the change within about a minute, or up to five minutes in a tab that was already open. A global hide always wins: no space setting brings the capability back. Sites, Quality and Forms also depend on your edition, so making them Visible is not always enough.
