Set up notifications for Capable in Confluence

Capable for Confluence sends approval notifications by email straight away. To add Slack or Microsoft Teams, a Confluence site administrator opens Global settings, goes to the Notifications tab and turns on the connect switch on the Slack or Microsoft Teams card. Each person then chooses their own channels in their Capable settings.

#Before you start

  • You need to be a Confluence site administrator.

  • Only Approval sends notifications. If nobody uses Approval, there is nothing to set up.

  • For Microsoft Teams, you also need to be, or sit with, a Microsoft 365 Global Administrator or Teams Administrator.

#Steps

  1. Open Global settings for Capable in Confluence administration. You can also use Global settings under Manage in the Approval sidebar, or Manage notifications in your Capable settings.

  2. Select the Notifications tab.

  3. On the Email card, check that Email notifications is on.

  4. To use Slack, turn on the connect switch on the Slack card and allow the Capable app in Slack.

  5. To use Microsoft Teams, turn on the connect switch on the Microsoft Teams card, accept the consent screen and sign in.

  6. If you want approvers to answer from chat, turn on Slack approval actions or Microsoft Teams approval actions.

  7. Tell people they can switch Email, Slack and Microsoft Teams on or off for themselves in the Notifications section of their Capable settings.

#What happens next

The next approval request goes out on every channel each person has switched on. Slack and Teams find people by their Confluence email address, so somebody whose chat account uses a different address gets nothing there. The Slack and Microsoft Teams cards show Connected once the connection is made.

Connect once. Everyone picks their own channels.
