Insert a Markdown template from the byline

To insert a Markdown template from the byline, open the Capable item under the page title, type part of the template's name, and pick it under Templates. The Markdown editor opens with the template already filled in, ready to insert. It finds your space and global templates as well as the 17 built-in starter templates.

#Before you start

  • This search is part of the Capable byline item, which comes with the Capable suite. In the standalone Markdown app, use the Markdown byline item and its insert option instead.

  • You need permission to edit the page.

#Steps

  1. Open the page and click Capable in the byline under the page title, or press , on your keyboard.

  2. Type part of the template's name or description in the search box.

  3. Under Templates, pick a result tagged markdown. Your own space and global templates are listed before the built-in ones.

  4. The Markdown editor opens with the template filled in. Change anything you want for this page.

  5. Click Insert.

#What happens next

The template is added to the page as its own Markdown document, a copy you can edit without changing the template. To show a template that stays in step with every later edit, use the Markdown reference macro instead.

#If it does not work

  • No templates appear. The search starts only once you type, and each group shows up to five matches. Type more of the name.

  • Text you typed in the editor seemed at risk while the template loaded. It is kept. A template that finishes loading late only fills fields you have left empty.

  • Markdown templates are missing but diagram ones show. An administrator may have hidden Markdown for the site or the space.

Type a few letters. Insert. Carry on writing.
