Import a Markdown file into Confluence
To import a Markdown file into Confluence, insert the Markdown (Capable) macro, choose Markdown from scratch and click Upload file to load a .md, .markdown, .mdx or .txt file into the editor. Save, and the file's content becomes an editable Markdown document on the page, rendered with tables, task lists and code highlighting.
#Before you start
You need permission to edit the page.
The file must end in .md, .markdown, .mdx or .txt.
Decide whether you want a copy you edit in Confluence (these steps) or a page that always shows the attached file (see the note below).
#Steps
Open the page in the editor, type /markdown and choose Markdown (Capable), or Markdown macro (Capable) in the standalone app.
In Configure Markdown, choose Markdown from scratch.
Click Upload file and pick the file. Its content is added after anything already in the editor, and its name becomes the title if the title is empty.
Check the result in preview mode and tidy anything you need to.
Click Save, then publish the page.
Want the page to follow the file instead? Choose Markdown from file in step 2 and pick an attachment, or drop the file onto the drop zone to attach and select it in one go. The page then renders the attached file, and uploading a new version of the attachment updates the page.
#If it does not work
The file is greyed out or refused. Rename it to end in .md, .markdown, .mdx or .txt.
Images in the file do not show. Relative image paths from your repository do not exist in Confluence. Upload the images with the + menu instead.
