Check Google Analytics is tracking Confluence
To check Google Analytics is tracking Confluence, open the Google Analytics configuration page and go to Tracking diagnostics. Select Check tracker config first, then open a Confluence page in another tab, wait about 30 seconds, and select Run live check or Recent events to see what Google received.
#Before you start
You are a Confluence administrator.
A measurement ID is saved. Run live check, Recent events and Copy info also need Google connected and a GA4 property chosen; Check tracker config does not.
#Steps
Open Confluence Settings and select Google Analytics.
Go to Tracking diagnostics and select Check tracker config.
If it says Not published, select Publish now.
Open any Confluence page in another tab and wait about 30 seconds.
Select Run live check, then Recent events, and look for your page view.
#What happens next
Published. means the browser tracker can read your measurement ID, so every reader is tracked. The live check and recent events read Google's realtime data, which has no processing delay, so a page view you just made should show within a minute. Standard reports still take up to 48 hours.
#If it does not work
Message | What to do |
|---|---|
Not published. | Your settings are saved but the copy the tracker reads is missing. Select Publish now. Readers already on a page pick it up within a minute. |
The licence was refused | Tracking is off for every reader. Check the app subscription in Atlassian Marketplace. |
Could not reach the tracker configuration service | The check itself failed, not necessarily tracking. Try again in a moment. |
Rate-limiting message | Google is limiting realtime requests for the property. Try again in a few minutes. |
Still stuck? Tick Verbose tracking logs and select Save configuration, reproduce the problem, then select Copy info and paste the result into your support request. Untick it and save again when you are done, because it logs every page view.
