Search, comment and page create/update events never show up, but page views work fine
What you are seeing
Search, comment and page create/update events never show up, but page views work fine.
#Why it happens
No Measurement Protocol API secret is stored. Google requires one for server-sent events; the Measurement ID alone is not enough.
#What to do
Go to Enhanced tracking and pick an existing secret from your data stream, or press + to create one. Both save immediately.
#Settings involved
Setting | Where | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Connect Google Analytics / Disconnect | Settings > Apps > Google Analytics > Connect Google | Starts a Google sign-in popup. The connection is site-level: one admin connects once and the whole Confluence site uses it. Disconnect revokes access at Google and deletes the stored tokens. |
Measurement Protocol API secret | Settings > Apps > Google Analytics > Enhanced tracking | Unlocks the server-side events: search, comments, and page create/update. Not needed for page views. |
Create API secret (+ button) | Settings > Apps > Google Analytics > Enhanced tracking | Creates a new Measurement Protocol secret in your GA4 data stream, named "Google Analytics by Capable", and stores it immediately. |
#Limits that apply here
Limit | Value | What happens |
|---|---|---|
Custom dimensions created | - | Against GA4's standard limit of 50 event-scoped custom dimensions. The app budgets 45 so you keep room for your own. |
Report table page size | - | Applies to the Content, Spaces, Searches and Raw tables. |
GA4 data latency | - | New events and newly created custom dimensions take up to 48 hours to appear in Google Analytics. This is Google's behaviour, not the app's. |
