Exported the page to PDF or Word and the GitHub file is missing, with no explanation

What you are seeing

I exported the page to PDF or Word and the GitHub file is missing, with no explanation.

#Why it happens

  • Exporting GitHub file macros to PDF or Word is not supported.

#What to do

Expect neither the file nor a warning, just Confluence's own placeholder for a macro it cannot render. If the content must appear in an export, copy it into the page manually.

#Settings involved

Setting

Where

What it does

There is no GitHub settings screen

Nowhere

GitHub adds nothing to Capable global settings or space settings. There is also no admin screen to connect the whole site to GitHub, because everyone connects their own account.

Hide GitHub across the whole site

A site-wide app property set by your admin

Hides GitHub across your site. This only removes the GitHub byline. It does not stop existing GitHub macros from showing on pages.

Turn GitHub on or off per space

A space property

Always off hides the byline in that space. Always on shows it even on pages with no GitHub macro. Again, this affects the byline only. Macros still show.

#Limits that apply here

Limit

Value

What happens

Auto-convert: only two hosts

-

Only github.com file links and raw.githubusercontent.com links are converted. Folder (tree/) links, gists and GitHub Enterprise hosts are not.

Connecting times out after 30 seconds

30 seconds

If connecting takes longer than 30 seconds, Capable stops waiting.

No caching of file content

-

Every time a page with a GitHub file macro is viewed, the file is fetched again. A page with many GitHub macros uses up your GitHub API allowance on every view.

Found it? Good.
