Capable Markdown global page shows no results, even though issues do have .md attachments

What you are seeing

The Capable Markdown global page shows no results, even though issues do have .md attachments.

#Why it happens

The page is driven by a search index that is only written when the app is licensed. The attachment triggers that maintain it are filtered to licensed sites, so an unlicensed site never gets an index.

#What to do

Check the licence in Jira > Apps > Manage apps. Once licensed, the index fills as attachments are added or deleted; existing files only appear after they are re-uploaded or deleted.

What happens

Global page results per fetch

50 issues

The Capable Markdown page loads 50 issues at a time; 'Show more' fetches the next page.

Background job time budget

25 seconds

The function that recalculates the Markdown index per issue must complete within 25 seconds.

Raw HTML in Markdown

Not rendered

The viewer strips HTML and sanitises output, so HTML tags embedded in a Markdown document do not render.

#A few things that catch people out

  • Diagram source and the user's short-lived token travel inside the image URL to Capable's hosted rendering service; the app declares all external addresses as not in scope for end-user data even though document text and diagram source transit them.

  • Without an active licence in production the whole panel and the whole global page are replaced by a licence banner. Existing documents cannot be read through the app, though the .md files remain downloadable from Jira's attachment list.

  • Only the upgrade event performs the registration on the Jira side.
