What you are seeing

A link that opens fine in a browser never loads in the macro, with no obvious error.

#Why it happens

The proxy only accepts https, and blocks bare IP addresses, IPv6 literals, private and internal hosts, localhost, example/test domains, anything under amazonaws.com or amazon.com, and .local .corp .lan .test and similar internal domains.

#What to do

Host the file on a public https address, or attach it to the page instead. Intranet-only files will never load from a link.

#A few things that catch people out

  • "Types of render" (Default / Canvas) does nothing at all. It is stored and passed to the viewer but never used.

  • The 2.5 MB linked-PDF ceiling is never surfaced in the macro editor.

  • A PDF behind a login, a signed URL, a firewall or a bot manager may fail even though the reader's own browser can open it.
