Step 6: Choose where the card appears
There is no separate on and off switch. Choosing at least one placement and finishing setup is what makes the card appear, and "The card renders nowhere until at least one placement is chosen."
#The three places
Placement | Where it sits | Shape |
|---|---|---|
Issue panel | A panel on the issue itself, above the activity area | Full width of the issue |
Activity tab | A tab at the bottom of the issue, beside Comments and History | Full width, and the only placement with no app icon, because Jira does not allow one there |
Sidebar | A collapsible panel in the right-hand column, under the issue details | Narrow, and collapsed until the reader expands it |
They are independent switches rather than a choice of one, and all three show exactly the same card. A project can show it in two or all three places at once.
The card reflows to the width it is given. Below roughly 380 pixels each label sits above its value, from 380 the label sits beside it, and from 700 the rows flow into two columns. The same card changes shape as a reader drags the issue sidebar.
#A few things worth knowing
Placements only take effect once the project can actually look a customer up. Switching one on before setup is finished shows the card nowhere.
Turning a placement off removes the card from that spot on every issue in the project at once.
If Jira refuses the small project update that switches placements on, usually because a site administrator has not yet approved the app's permissions, the settings screen says so rather than letting you believe it worked.
