Secure and public reports

The macro accepts both kinds of Power BI link. A secure embed link, the /reportEmbed?reportId= form from Website or portal, shows the report only to readers Power BI lets in. A public link, the /view?r= form from Publish to web (public), shows it to anyone.

#Where you do it

Power BI Secure embed code dialog with a highlighted link field at the top and, below it, an HTML iframe snippet pointing at app.powerbi.com slash reportEmbed.
The secure dialog hands back a link and an iframe snippet, and either can be pasted into the macro.
Power BI File menu opened on Embed report, showing a submenu with SharePoint online, Website or portal, and Publish to web (public).
Both link forms start in the same Power BI menu, with Website or portal producing the secure link and Publish to web the public one.

Task

Where

Get a secure link

Power BI: File, Embed report, Website or portal. Gives app.powerbi.com/reportEmbed?reportId=... and an iframe snippet.

Get a public link

Power BI: File, Embed report, Publish to web (public). Gives app.powerbi.com/view?r=.... Your Power BI admin can turn this off.

Reader experience

Secure (/reportEmbed)

Readers with access in Power BI see the report, after a Microsoft sign-in if needed. Others see Power BI's sign-in or no-access message inside the frame.

Public (/view)

Everyone who can open the Confluence page sees the report. So can anyone on the internet who has the link.
