Get a Power BI embed link for Confluence
To get a Power BI embed link for Confluence, open the report in Power BI and choose File, then Embed report. Website or portal gives a secure link that only people with access in Power BI can view. Publish to web (public) gives a public link anyone can view. The link in your browser's address bar is not an embed link.
#Before you start
Link type | Looks like | Who can see the report |
|---|---|---|
Secure embed (Website or portal) |
| Readers who can open the report in Power BI. They may be asked to sign in to Microsoft. |
Public (Publish to web) |
| Anyone, including people outside your organisation. Your Power BI admin may have turned this off. |
#Steps
Open the report in the Power BI service.
Choose File, then Embed report.
Choose Website or portal for a secure link, or Publish to web (public) for a public one.
Copy the link, or the iframe HTML. Either works in the macro.
Paste it into the Confluence page or the Power BI macro.
Only the report ID? Paste that alone and the macro builds a secure app.powerbi.com link from it. It is the value after reportId=.
#What happens next
The macro accepts links from app.powerbi.com and app.fabric.microsoft.com in the /reportEmbed and /view forms. It never signs in to Power BI itself, so what each reader sees is decided by Power BI.
#If it does not work
The macro shows Power BI not configured: the link is a workspace or sharing address, not an embed link. Go back to Embed report.
Publish to web is missing or greyed out: your Power BI administrator has disabled it. Use the secure link.
