# Deleted a site and now I cannot re-add its custom domain to the replacement — it says "Domain is alr

**What you are seeing**

I deleted a site and now I cannot re-add its custom domain to the replacement, it says "Domain is already registered".

## Why it happens

Deleting a site does not release its custom domain. The domain record, CDN distribution and certificate survive.

## What to do

Contact support to release the domain. Removing the domain from the site BEFORE deleting the site avoids this.
