# Change the URL of a page on a published Confluence site To change the URL of a page on a published Confluence site, open the site in Capable Sites, choose **Pages**, select the page, open **More details** and type a new **Slug**. Select **Save metadata**, then Update and Promote. The page moves to its new address, and the old address forwards visitors there automatically. --- ## Before you start * You need to be a Confluence admin or a collaborator on the site. * By default a page's address comes from its title, such as `/docs/getting-started`. The slug is the last part. * To move a whole space, change its URL slug in **Settings** \> **Spaces & URLs** instead. That needs an admin, and old space addresses are not redirected for you. --- ## Steps 1. Open Capable, choose **Sites**, open your site and choose **Pages**. 2. Select the page. Its Page metadata panel opens on the right. 3. Open **More details**. 4. Type the new address part in **Slug**, using letters, numbers and dashes. The preview underneath shows the full path. 5. Select **Save metadata**. 6. On the site's **Overview**, select **Update**, wait for it to finish, then select **Promote**. 7. Open the old address and check it forwards to the new one. --- ## What happens next The page is published at its new address, and a redirect from the old address is added for you. If you change the slug again later, every earlier address keeps forwarding. Renaming a page in Confluence works the same way when it changes the address. If the slug has anything else in it, saving stops with **Slug can only contain letters, numbers, and dashes**. --- ## Related ### [SEO and metadata](https://help.gocapable.com/sites/seo-and-metadata.html) Slugs, titles and search settings per page. ### [Spaces, URLs and navigation](https://help.gocapable.com/sites/spaces-urls-and-navigation.html) Space slugs and addresses. ### [Set up redirects for a published Confluence site](https://help.gocapable.com/sites/set-up-redirects-for-a-published-confluence-site.html) Redirect URLs from elsewhere. ### [Renaming one page changed the URL of a different page too](https://help.gocapable.com/sites/renaming-one-page-changed-the-url-of-a-different-page-too.html) When a rename moves another page. --- _New address, old links still work._
