# Search settings Search has fewer settings than most capabilities, because most of what it can do comes from the other capabilities being installed rather than from configuration. The interesting part is licensing: the standalone Search app is free. --- ## Settings | **Setting** | **Level** | **What it does** | | ------------------------------- | ---------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- | | Content indexing | admin settings surface | Shows instance-wide index coverage. | | Space Indexing → Index coverage | admin settings surface | Same progress bar and buttons, scoped to the current space. | | Capable Search (standalone app) | app | Free Confluence app with limited features. | | Search (Suite capability) | capability | Same Search client, bundled into Capable for Confluence. | --- ## Free, and what that costs you Capable Search is a free standalone app with licensing switched off entirely, so it never shows a licence panel. What it lacks is the extra search fields, because those are written by the other capabilities. On its own it is limited to Confluence's native fields. ℹ️ **This is the clearest argument for the Suite.** Search gets better with every capability you install, because each one contributes columns, filters and panels it did not have before. --- ## A few things worth knowing * Hiding the Search capability removes it from the navigation; existing macros keep rendering. * Indexing settings appear at both global and space level. * Search does not send notifications and has no per-user preferences. --- ## Related [How indexing worksThe setting that matters most.](https://help.gocapable.com/search/how-indexing-works.html) [Capable for ConfluenceSuite-level settings.](https://staging.dev.capable-sites.com/wiki/pages/1412890864) [ReferenceBuilt-in searches and limits.](https://help.gocapable.com/search/reference.html) --- _Free on its own.
