# Update a published Confluence page after editing it To update a published Confluence page after editing it, open the source page, select the **Publishing** byline item, which shows **Outdated** or **Moved**, and select **Update**. The existing copy in the target space is overwritten with a new version; no second copy is made. To update many pages, use the Dashboard. --- ## Before you start * The page has been published before. * You can edit the page and manual publishing is allowed. --- ## Steps 1. Open the edited page in the source space. 2. Select the **Publishing** item in the byline. It reads **Outdated** after an edit or **Moved** after a move. 3. Select **Update**, add a comment if asked, and confirm. 4. To update every outdated page, open the Publishing space page and select the **Update** button next to Outdated on the **Dashboard**. --- ## What happens next The copy gets a new version with your changes, and moves to its new parent if the source moved. The byline returns to **Published**. If someone edited the copy directly in the target space, the source shows **Desynced**; updating overwrites their changes. --- ## Related ### [What re-publishing does](https://help.gocapable.com/publishing/what-re-publishing-does.html) Exactly what an update changes. ### [Page statuses](https://help.gocapable.com/publishing/page-statuses.html) Outdated, Moved and Out of sync. ### [Bulk publish Confluence pages](https://help.gocapable.com/publishing/bulk-publish-confluence-pages.html) Update many pages at once. --- _Edit the draft, update the copy._
