# Restrict who can publish Confluence pages To restrict who can publish Confluence pages, open Publishing **Space settings**, go to the **Permissions** tab, turn on **Restrict publish permissions**, add up to 50 people with **Add users**, and save. Only those people and space administrators can then publish pages from the byline. --- ## Before you start * You are a space administrator of the source space. * The people you add already have edit permission on the pages they will publish. --- ## Steps 1. Open the space and select **Capable Publishing** in the sidebar (in the Suite, **Capable**, then **Publishing**). Under Manage, select **Space settings**. 2. Select the **Permissions** tab. 3. Turn on **Restrict publish permissions**. 4. Select **Add users** and add each person who may publish. You can add up to 50. 5. Select **Save**. --- ## If it does not work * With the switch on but nobody in the list, everyone who can edit a page can still publish it. Add at least one person. * Space administrators can always publish, whether or not they are in the list. * The restriction covers manual publishing only. Publishing on approval and bulk runs started by administrators are not affected. * To stop manual publishing altogether, turn off **Allow manual publishing** on the Setup tab instead. --- ## Related ### [Turned on "Restrict publish permissions" but everyone can still publish](https://help.gocapable.com/publishing/turned-on-restrict-publish-permissions-but-everyone-can-still-publish.html) The empty-list case. ### [Publishing settings](https://help.gocapable.com/publishing/publishing-settings.html) The Permissions tab in detail. ### [Publish button is missing from the byline on a page I can edit](https://help.gocapable.com/publishing/publish-button-is-missing-from-the-byline-on-a-page-i-can-edit.html) Why the button may be hidden. --- _The right people, and only them._
