# Open a PDF at a specific page in Confluence To open a PDF at a specific page in Confluence, keep the **PDF embed (Capable)** macro on the **Slider** layout and type the page number into **Initial Page**. Readers land on that page and can still move with **Previous page**, **Next page** or the page box. Initial Page only exists in Slider; Scroller always starts at the top. --- ## Before you start * You can edit the page, and the macro already has a PDF. * You know the page number as the PDF counts it, which may differ from the number printed on the page. --- ## Steps 1. Edit the page, select the PDF embed macro and open its configuration. 2. Check **Viewer Options** is set to **Slider**. 3. Type the page number into **Initial Page**. It accepts 1 up to the number of pages in the file. 4. Close the configuration window and publish the page. --- ## What happens next Every reader opens the PDF on that page. To point people at different sections, add the macro more than once with a different **Initial Page** each time. --- ## If it does not work * There is no **Initial Page** field: the layout is **Scroller**. See [Initial Page is ignored, and there is no previous/next or page-number box](https://help.gocapable.com/pdf-embed/initial-page-is-ignored-and-there-is-no-previous-next-or-page-number-box.html). * Pop-out or fullscreen opens on the reader's current page rather than Initial Page. That is by design. See [this troubleshooting page](https://help.gocapable.com/pdf-embed/opening-pop-out-or-fullscreen-shows-the-page-the-reader-was-on-not-the-configured-initial-page-and.html). --- ## Related ### [Slider and Scroller layouts](https://help.gocapable.com/pdf-embed/slider-and-scroller-layouts.html) The two layouts compared. ### [PDF embed](https://help.gocapable.com/pdf-embed/pdf-embed.html) Every setting of the macro. ### [Show all pages of a PDF in Confluence](https://help.gocapable.com/pdf-embed/show-all-pages-of-a-pdf-in-confluence.html) All pages as one scroll. --- _Straight to the page that matters._
