# Let readers download a PDF from a Confluence page To let readers download a PDF from a Confluence page, open the **PDF embed (Capable)** macro's configuration and turn on **Download**. A **Download** button appears in the viewer's toolbar. In the same place, **Popup** adds **Open in popup** and **Fullscreen** adds a fullscreen button. All three are off until you turn them on. --- ## Before you start * You can edit the page. * The macro already has a PDF. The display options only appear once a file or link is set. --- ## Steps 1. Edit the page, select the PDF embed macro and open its configuration. 2. Turn on **Download** to let readers save the file. 3. Turn on **Popup** to let readers open the PDF in a larger window over the page. 4. Turn on **Fullscreen** to let readers fill the screen with it. 5. Close the configuration window and publish the page. --- ## What happens next Each option adds one button to the toolbar at the top of the viewer. Pop-out and fullscreen open the same document with the same zoom and page controls. | **Where the page is read** | **What carries over** | | -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Confluence | All three buttons. | | A published Capable Site | **Download** carries over. Pop-out and fullscreen do not. See [this troubleshooting page](https://help.gocapable.com/pdf-embed/published-capable-site-has-no-pop-out-no-fullscreen-and-text-cannot-be-selected.html). | 📝 Turning **Download** off removes the button, not the file. Anyone who can view an attached PDF can still download it from the page's attachments. --- ## If it does not work * You cannot see **Download**, **Popup** or **Fullscreen** in the configuration: set the PDF first. See [this troubleshooting page](https://help.gocapable.com/pdf-embed/none-of-the-display-options-layout-height-download-popup-fullscreen-text-layer-appear-in-the.html). * Pop-out opens on a different page from the one you set: see [this troubleshooting page](https://help.gocapable.com/pdf-embed/opening-pop-out-or-fullscreen-shows-the-page-the-reader-was-on-not-the-configured-initial-page-and.html). --- ## Related ### [Download button](https://help.gocapable.com/pdf-embed/download-button.html) How the Download button behaves. ### [Pop-out and fullscreen viewing](https://help.gocapable.com/pdf-embed/pop-out-and-fullscreen-viewing.html) Bigger views of the document. ### [PDF embed](https://help.gocapable.com/pdf-embed/pdf-embed.html) Every setting of the macro. --- _Read it here, take it with you if you need to._
