# Embed a PDF in a Confluence page To embed a PDF in a Confluence page, attach the PDF to the page, insert the **PDF embed (Capable)** macro, set **Types of file** to **Existing Page Attachment** and choose the file under **Attached File**. Readers then page through the document in a viewer with zoom and page controls, without downloading it. --- ## Before you start | **You need** | **Why** | | ---------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | Permission to edit the page | The macro is added in the editor. | | The PDF attached to the same page | The list shows this page's PDF attachments only. To add one while configuring, use [Upload a PDF and show it on a Confluence page](https://help.gocapable.com/pdf-embed/upload-a-pdf-and-show-it-on-a-confluence-page.html). | | Readers with permission to view the attachment | The PDF is read with each reader's own Confluence permissions. | --- ## Steps 1. Edit the page, type **/PDF** and choose **PDF embed (Capable)**. 2. In **Configure PDF embed**, set **Types of file** to **Existing Page Attachment**. 3. Open **Attached File** and choose the PDF. 4. Pick a layout under **Viewer Options**: **Slider** for one page at a time, or **Scroller** for all pages. 5. Turn on **Download**, **Popup** or **Fullscreen** if readers need them. 6. Close the configuration window when the preview looks right, then publish the page. --- ## What happens next The PDF appears in a viewer with **Zoom out** and **Zoom in**, and in Slider layout **Previous page**, **Next page** and a page number box. Readers can pinch to zoom on a touch screen. If you replace the attachment with a new version, the viewer shows the new version. 📝 Readers who are not signed in see **Sign in to view this PDF** instead of the document, even on a public page.
