# Three-mode markdown editor

Edit (source only), Live (split source and preview) and Preview (rendered only), chosen by a toolbar tab switch; default is Live. A fourth internal mode, code-preview, is what the library page's 'Show Code' button turns on. Macros always render in preview. Formatting toolbar covers bold, italic, strikethrough, title, link, quote, code block, table and ordered/unordered lists. Empty placeholder: 'Write your markdown here...'. Scroll sync between panes is off by default because images and diagrams load asynchronously.

Live keeps the source on the left and the rendered result on the right, with the mode buttons sitting at the end of the toolbar.

## Worth knowing

* The document macro's 'Markdown description' field is captured but never saved, while the unsaved-changes guard still counts editing it as a change.
* Raw HTML is always stripped, in the editor preview, the viewer and the static-site export.
* The self-hosted diagram renderer is currently inert for markdown fences.
* 'Copy as macro' is unavailable for the bundled Examples and for URL- or attachment-sourced markdown.
* Hiding Markdown globally removes only the nav and byline entries; existing macros keep rendering.
* Anonymous and unlicensed visitors get a marketing notice instead of the Capable Markdown library page, while the macros themselves still render for them.
