# Add tabs to a Confluence page To add tabs to a Confluence page, insert the **Tabs (Capable)** macro, then place a **Tab (Capable)** macro inside it for each tab. Give each one a **Tab Title** and write that tab's content underneath it. Readers click a tab to switch sections, so one page can serve several audiences without endless scrolling. --- ## Before you start * You need permission to edit the page. * Capable Formatting, or the Capable suite, must be installed on your Confluence site. * Confluence also offers its own Tabs element, marked **New** in the insert menu. That is a different feature; these steps use **Tabs (Capable)**. --- ## Steps 1. Open the page in the editor and type **/tabs**. Choose **Tabs (Capable)**, or **Tabs macro (Capable)** in the standalone app. 2. On the **Content** tab of the panel, choose **Tabs Orientation**, **Tabs Alignment** and whether to **Show Container**. Pick a **Tab style** and colours on the **Style** tab if you want them. 3. Close the panel and click inside the body of the Tabs macro. 4. Type **/tab** and choose **Tab (Capable)**. Enter the **Tab Title**. 5. Write the content for that tab directly underneath the Tab macro. Text, tables, images and other macros all work. 6. Repeat the last two steps for each further tab, all inside the same Tabs body. 7. Publish the page and click through each tab to check it. --- ## If it does not work * **A tab does not switch.** Its Tab macro has to sit inside the Tabs macro body. A Tab macro placed outside it shows as a lone tab heading and switches nothing. * **The settings look different.** You probably inserted Confluence's own Tabs element. Remove it and insert **Tabs (Capable)** instead. --- ## Related ### [Tabs](https://help.gocapable.com/macros/tabs.html) Every Tabs setting, with live examples. ### [Buttons and navigation](https://help.gocapable.com/macros/buttons-and-navigation.html) Buttons, tabs and tooltips together. ### [Building better Confluence pages with macros](https://help.gocapable.com/macros/building-better-confluence-pages-with-macros.html) More guides for building Confluence pages. --- _One page, several audiences, no scrolling past each other._
