# A setting appears to do nothing

Macros with a lot of settings inevitably have settings that only make sense in some configurations. Rather than hiding them, most stay visible and simply have no effect.

## The usual suspects

| Alignment on Cards           | Columns is set to Auto, because the grid then fills the width                 |
| Height on a diagram or embed | The macro is in a mode that sizes itself                                      |
| Link type None               | The macro requires a destination, so the option is hidden rather than ignored |
| A brand colour               | The macro has a freeform colour set, which wins                               |

## A few things worth knowing

* A freeform colour overrides a brand role and is not updated when the brand changes.
* Settings changes can take up to a minute to reach other people, and five minutes in an already-open tab.
* If a setting does nothing in a mode where it should work, that is worth reporting.
