# Upload

Upload button, or drag files anywhere onto a library section. Multiple files are processed one at a time with a progress toast. The original file is stored byte-for-byte; a separate downscaled thumbnail is generated alongside it. If a file cannot be re-encoded, the original is used as its own preview so an upload never fails over its thumbnail.

An empty section is itself the drop target, so files can be dragged onto it instead of going through the button.

## Worth knowing

* For an anonymous or unlicensed reader, an Image reference pointing at a plain external URL degrades to a sign-in notice rather than the picture. Library uploads, Unsplash images and Confluence attachments still render for those readers.
* PDF, AI and PSD files can be uploaded and stored. The Image reference macro shows an 'Unsupported Format' card; the gallery shows a file-type icon tile with the extension, though clicking it still downloads the file; and the Rovo/chat tools refuse them outright.
* The Upload button's file dialog and drag-and-drop accept different formats. The button omits svg, ico and jfif, which the drop overlay allows. An SVG can be dragged in but is not offered by the Browse dialog.
* A freshly uploaded image can be missing from a gallery or from the library on reload. All these views are search-index queries, and Confluence indexes asynchronously. Only the folder listing hides the lag, with a live top-up limited to the last 24 hours.
* If the attachment step of an upload fails, the record just created is deleted again so nothing partial is left behind; a mixed batch reports 'Successfully uploaded N files, failed to upload M files'.
