# Insert an image from your library into a Confluence page To insert an image from your library into a Confluence page, type **/image reference** in the editor, choose **Image reference (Capable)**, pick the image and set its size and alignment. The page then always shows the library's latest version, so replacing the file in the library updates this page too. --- ## Before you start * You need permission to edit the page. * The image must already be in a space or global library. Page attachments and stock photos need importing first. * In the standalone app the macro is called **Image reference macro (Capable)**. --- ## Steps 1. Open the page in the editor and type **/image reference**. Choose **Image reference (Capable)**. 2. On the **Content** tab, pick the **Image** from the space or global library. 3. Set **Width**, **Height**, **Aspect Ratio** and **Alignment**, and turn on **Show Caption** if you want the caption. 4. On the **Style** tab, adjust **Corner radius**, **Shadow** and **Border** if you like. 5. Close the panel and publish the page. --- ## What happens next The image shows at the size you set and follows the library: upload a new version and this page updates. The page appears in the image's **Used on Pages** list once it has been indexed. 📝 **Need a frozen copy instead?** Insert with the **Image (Capable)** macro and use the **Insert ... images** button. A plain copy does not follow library updates, but it appears in PDF and Word exports and for logged-out readers. --- ## Related ### [Image reference](https://help.gocapable.com/images/image-reference.html) Every Image reference setting. ### [Two insert modes](https://help.gocapable.com/images/two-insert-modes.html) References versus plain copies. ### [Adding images to Confluence pages](https://help.gocapable.com/images/adding-images-to-confluence-pages.html) More guides for adding images to pages. --- _Place it once.
