# Edit an image before inserting

Selecting exactly one page attachment or Unsplash photo in the insert dialog and pressing Insert raises a prompt offering to edit first, opening the 'Edit image' screen ('Annotate or edit before inserting'). Images over 3 MB cannot be edited.

Crop, boxes, arrows and text are applied on the copy that goes onto the page, and Insert image commits it.

## Worth knowing

* A reader who cannot see the folder's space usually sees 'No images in this folder' rather than a permission notice, because Confluence filters search results by permission instead of refusing the query.
* Show Caption prints the library asset's own title (or description) on the page, not the Image Title stored on the macro. The published-site exporter behaves the opposite way. It prefers the macro's Image Title and falls back to the asset title.
* Newly inserted galleries and galleries created by pasting a folder link do not look the same. Inserting from the macro browser applies the insert defaults (corner radius 8, gap 16, small shadow) plus any tenant brand guidelines; a pasted link rebuilds the config from the plain defaults (corner radius 6, gap 12, no shadow). This default split affects the gallery only. For the Image reference macro
* Corner radius, Shadow and Border on the reference macro, and Columns, Image fit, Gap, Corner radius, Shadow and Border on the gallery, exist only in the custom config panel.
* An image picked through the shared image picker (Formatting Banner, Cards, Gallery, Compare, Background) is stored as a plain URL, not as a reference. Those macros never follow later library edits, and if the library image is deleted the macro is left pointing at a dead URL with no notice at all.
* The 'Capable Images' section in the shared image picker, and the Markdown 'From library' item, are contributed by Images but consumed by Formatting and Markdown. The standalone Images app bundles neither, so both seams are Suite-only in practice.
