# Google Analytics settings

Google Analytics is configured from the shared Capable settings surfaces rather than a tab of its own in every case. This is the complete list.

## Every setting

| Connect Google Analytics / Disconnect       | Starts a Google sign-in popup. The connection is site-level: one admin connects once and the whole Confluence site uses it. Disconnect revokes access at Google and deletes the stored tokens.                               |
| GA4 property                                | Which GA4 property the in-Confluence reports read from. Also scopes the data stream, API secret and custom dimension controls.                                                                                               |
| Data stream                                 | Picking a web data stream fills in the Measurement ID for you.                                                                                                                                                               |
| Measurement ID                              | The GA4 tag ID (G-XXXXXXXXXX). This is the single required setting: nothing is collected anywhere until it is set.                                                                                                           |
| Use UA tag instead                          | Switches the hint text and placeholder to the old Universal Analytics format.                                                                                                                                                |
| Measurement Protocol API secret             | Unlocks the server-side events: search, comments, and page create/update. Not needed for page views.                                                                                                                         |
| Create API secret (+ button)                | Creates a new Measurement Protocol secret in your GA4 data stream, named "Google Analytics by Capable", and stores it immediately.                                                                                           |
| Custom dimensions (GA4) - Sync / Refresh    | Creates the app's 14 custom dimensions in your GA4 property. Five are required (space key, hashed account id, content id, content type, content version) and back the core reports; nine are optional and each unlocks a rep |
| Allowed groups                              | Restricts who can OPEN the analytics reports, including the macro's data.                                                                                                                                                    |
| Hide Google Analytics pages in Confluence   | Removes the app's own report pages and menu entries from Confluence navigation.                                                                                                                                              |
| Show sensitive data panels                  | Adds the "Raw" (accessed paths) and "Searches" report tabs, which can reveal URLs and search terms.                                                                                                                          |
| Published site generators (Refined / Scroll | The paste-in loader for content published outside Confluence. Refined takes an HTML script tag; Scroll Viewport takes the JavaScript variant.                                                                                |
| Save configuration                          | Saves the Measurement ID, property, hide-pages and allowed groups, and republishes the settings that readers' browsers pick up.                                                                                              |
| Capable analytics integration               | Turns on tracking of the published static site, tagged with the Confluence space, page id, type and version so published views join up with in-Confluence views.                                                             |
| Cookie consent popup                        | Shows a cookie banner on the published site and blocks all analytics scripts until the visitor clicks Accept.                                                                                                                |

## A few things worth knowing

* Settings changes can take a minute to reach other people.
* Hiding a capability removes it from the navigation; macros already on pages keep rendering.
* Some settings are per space and need only a space administrator.
