# Enhanced tracking worked, then silently stopped after you saved settings again **What you are seeing** Enhanced tracking worked, then silently stopped after you saved settings again. --- ## Why it happens A manually pasted API secret is wiped by the next Save configuration unless you retype it. Secrets picked or created through the Google picker survive; hand-typed ones do not. --- ## What to do Re-enter the secret, or better, connect Google and pick or create the secret from the data stream so it is remembered permanently. --- ## Settings involved | **Setting** | **Where** | **What it does** | | ------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Connect Google Analytics / Disconnect | Settings > Apps > Google Analytics > Connect Google | Starts a Google sign-in popup. The connection is site-level: one admin connects once and the whole Confluence site uses it. Disconnect revokes access at Google and deletes the stored tokens. | | Data stream | Settings > Apps > Google Analytics > View tracking | Picking a web data stream fills in the Measurement ID for you. | | Measurement ID | Settings > Apps > Google Analytics > View tracking | The GA4 tag ID (G-XXXXXXXXXX). This is the single required setting: nothing is collected anywhere until it is set. | --- ## Related [Search counts look roughly doubleSearches can be recorded twice on sites where Confluence emits its own search event: once ](https://staging.dev.capable-sites.com/wiki/pages/1418822292) [You entered a Universal Analytics (UA-) ID and nothing is trackedThe "Use UA tag instead" checkbox only changes the hints and validation on the ID field.
