# Common tasks

Rather than a tour, this is the list of things people do, with the route to each.

## Configuration

1. Click ‘Connect’ to connect to your Google Analytics account and accept the required permissions.
2. Choose the Property you want to track Confluence usage on from the dropdown.
3. Choose which Data Stream to use, or use the link to create a new one.
4. Select or create a new Measurement Protocol API secret to track server-side events.
5. Sync the dimensions using the ‘Sync dimensions’ button.
6. Choose who can access the information on the Confluence app.
7. Enable any settings you want to use (e.g. identifiable user id’s or search term tracking).
8. Click ‘Save’ at the bottom of the page.
9. You should see events in your Google Analytics account after about 10 minutes.

## Reporting in Confluence

You can view basic reports and tables and drill down into the data, all from within Confluence. The reporting interface allows you to explore summaries and then investigate details without leaving the Confluence environment.

Confluence administrators can access this data by default, and those admin permissions provide immediate visibility for administrative users. You can also customise the access controls so that users in other groups are granted permission to view and interact with the data as required.

## Reporting in Google Analytics

You can view all information and create new reports in Google Analytics. The data is all sent to Google Analytics as custom dimensions and you can make any report you want based on different attributes of the user.

Create reports in Google Analytics easily and save them and share them with your team.

You can even view users in realtime as they use the app.

This is powered by Custom Dimensions, which explain what happens as we track events beyond page views - for example comments, page creations, updates and searches.

## Reporting in Data Analysis Tools (Looker/Power BI etc.)

Most data analysis tools include an integration that allows them to ingest Google Analytics events. These integrations make it possible for the tools to receive event data directly from Google Analytics, so analysts can work with that data inside their chosen platforms.

This built-in connectivity is common across many products, enabling smoother data flow from Google Analytics into analysis workflows.
