# Import from Visio Visio files import as editable draw.io diagrams. Shapes, connectors and text come across, so the diagram carries on being a diagram. --- ## How to ![The diagram framework picker showing Capable drawio, Mermaid, PlantUML and Excalidraw at the top, with Visio import highlighted under Whiteboard and visual, followed by groups for business and process](https://help.gocapable.com/images/9e5f91f4-7770-4aed-b5e0-cb8be52b9f63.webp) Visio import sits under whiteboard and visual in the framework picker, not under the drawing editors at the top. | **Step** | **What you do** | | -------- | ----------------------------------------------- | | 1 | Insert a diagram and choose the draw.io editor. | | 2 | Use the import option and pick your .vsdx file. | | 3 | Check the result, then save. | ## What comes across ![An imported Visio organisation chart open in the Capable editor, showing coloured cards with photographs and job titles joined by connector lines, with an import panel on the left offering an Import V](https://help.gocapable.com/images/9f139501-5878-49ce-a417-59b497890b99.webp) Shapes, images, colours and connectors arrive as editable objects rather than a flat picture, and the import panel stays available for a second file. | **Element** | **Result** | | --------------------------- | --------------------------------- | | Shapes and connectors | Converted to draw.io equivalents | | Text and labels | Preserved | | Standard Visio stencils | Mapped where an equivalent exists | | Custom or licensed stencils | May come across as plain shapes | | Macros and embedded data | Not supported | --- ## A few things that catch people out * Complex stencils can lose styling even when the structure survives. Check before deleting the original. * Very large Visio files take a while to convert; it is not stuck. * For bulk migration of many files, see [Migrate to Capable Diagrams](https://help.gocapable.com/diagrams/migrate-to-capable-diagrams.html). --- ## Related [draw.io editorEditing after import.](https://help.gocapable.com/diagrams/editors.html) [Migrate to Capable DiagramsMoving many diagrams at once.](https://help.gocapable.com/diagrams/migrate-to-capable-diagrams.html) [ReferenceSupported file formats.](https://help.gocapable.com/diagrams/reference.html) --- _It arrives as a diagram, not a picture of one._
