# Floor plan

Floor plans are positional in the purest sense: every measurement means something. They belong on a canvas, drawn to scale, with the floorplan shape library.

Once drawn, they are useful far beyond facilities: evacuation routes, equipment placement, and seating all hang off them.

## When to reach for one

* Office moves and space planning.
* Health and safety documentation, including evacuation routes.
* Event and room layouts.

## How to draw it in Capable

| Excalidraw | A quick sketch when scale genuinely does not matter. |

## What to draw, in order

* Outer walls and structural columns first; everything else hangs off them.
* Doors and windows, with swing direction.
* Fixed services: kitchens, bathrooms, risers, comms cabinets.
* Furniture last, because it is the part that changes.

## A few things that catch people out

* Set a scale before you start and note it on the diagram. Retro-fitting scale is painful.
* Doors swing. The shape library includes the arc for a reason.
* Keep one plan per floor and link them, rather than one enormous diagram.
