Permissions Model

Capable Images leverages Confluence’s security model to manage image access, storing all assets within spaces. This integration provides a secure and consistent way to manage visual assets alongside other Confluence content.

Capable Images integrates seamlessly with Confluence’s security model, ensuring that your images are protected and access is controlled through familiar permissions settings. By leveraging Confluence’s space-based structure, you can easily configure who has access to your visual assets across both global and space-specific libraries.

How Capable Images Handles Security

  1. Space-Based Storage
All images in Capable Images are stored within Confluence spaces. This means each image is subject to the permissions and security rules of the space where it resides.

  2. Global Images in the Capable Asset Store
A dedicated Confluence space called the Capable Asset Store is automatically created to house all global images. This space functions as the central repository for images that need to be accessed across your entire Confluence instance.

  3. Permission Control via Space Settings
Access to images is managed through the Space Settings > Permissions page in Confluence. By configuring permissions at the space level, you can control which users or groups can view, edit, or manage images within the application.

How to Set Up Permissions for Capable Images

  1. Navigate to the Space Settings

    • For global images, go to the Capable Asset Store space.

    • For space-specific images, open the relevant space where the images are stored.

  2. Open the Permissions Page

    • In the sidebar, click Space Settings and then navigate to the Permissions section.

  3. Configure Access

    • Add or remove users or groups to define who can view or manage images.

    • Use the standard Confluence permission levels (e.g., view, edit, admin) to tailor access to your team’s needs.

  4. Save Changes
Once permissions are updated, the changes will automatically apply to all images stored within that space.

Benefits of Using Confluence’s Security Model

  • Centralized Control: Manage access to images alongside other Confluence content, streamlining administration.

  • Granular Permissions: Define permissions at a user or group level, ensuring the right people have access to the right assets.

  • Consistency: Rely on the same robust security model that protects your Confluence pages and spaces.

Example Scenarios

  • Global Team Collaboration:
Store branded assets like logos and templates in the Capable Asset Store for company-wide use. Configure permissions to allow all employees to view but limit editing to the design team.

  • Project-Specific Assets:
Use a project-specific space to store visual assets related to a campaign. Restrict access to the project team to maintain confidentiality.

  • Cross-Department Sharing:
Create a shared space for marketing and product teams, allowing both teams to upload and manage images while limiting visibility to other departments.

Summary

Capable Images provides a secure and flexible way to manage image access by leveraging Confluence’s existing permissions model. Whether you’re organizing global assets or space-specific visuals, you can rely on the familiar settings in Confluence to ensure your images are only accessible to the right people.
