Organizing image assets

Whether organizing at the global level or within a specific space, you can create folders, add titles and descriptions, and store images for easy access and collaboration.

Capable Images provides a comprehensive set of tools for managing visual assets in Confluence, allowing you to upload, categorize, and enrich your images with metadata.

Why Organize Your Images?

Efficient organization is essential for maintaining a streamlined workflow, especially for teams working with a large volume of visual content. By using folders and metadata, you can:

  • Quickly Locate Assets: A clear folder structure and searchable metadata make finding images simple.

  • Enhance Collaboration: Provide meaningful context to team members with titles, descriptions, and Markdown-supported links.

  • Support Scalability: Manage assets effectively at both the global and space levels for tailored accessibility.

Key Features

  • Folder Structure: Create folders for images at the global or space level to organize content by project, team, or purpose.

  • Metadata Management: Add titles and descriptions to folders and images, with descriptions supporting Markdown for links (e.g., [View Details](https://example.com)).

  • Flexible Uploads: Upload images directly to the base of a scope (space or global) or place them into folders.

  • Global or Space-Level Storage: Store and restrict access to images based on organizational needs.

2. Upload Images

You can upload images to the base of a scope (global or space) or directly into folders:

To the Base of a Scope:

  1. Open the global or space library without selecting a folder.

  2. Drag and drop images from your computer, or click the Upload button to browse and select files.

To a Folder:

  1. Navigate to the specific folder where you want to store the images.

  2. Drag and drop images directly into the folder, or use the Upload button.

Note: While you can drag and drop files from your computer to upload, dragging images between folders or areas within the library interface is not currently supported.

3. Organize with Metadata

After uploading images, enrich them with metadata to make them easier to manage:

  • Titles: Add a short, descriptive name to identify the image.

  • Descriptions: Provide additional details or context. Use Markdown for links to relevant pages or resources.

    • Example: [Download High-Res](https://example.com/high-res-image)

Best Practices for Organizing Images

  • Structure Folders by Use Case: Use folders to group images by project, team, or purpose (e.g., “Campaign Assets,” “Product Diagrams,” or “HR Onboarding Visuals”).

  • Leverage Metadata: Titles and descriptions make images searchable and provide clarity for team members.

  • Base vs. Folder Storage: Store general-purpose images at the base of a scope, and specific images within folders for better categorization.

  • Use Markdown for Descriptions: Add clickable links to folder or image descriptions to connect assets with related Confluence pages or external resources.

  • Periodic Reviews: Regularly audit your folders to ensure the structure remains organized and relevant.
