# How Confluence dates on a page become events

A date in a paragraph makes one event running from the earliest to the latest date in that paragraph; @-mentions in the same paragraph become participants and the remaining paragraph text becomes the title. A table row containing dates makes one event running from the earliest to the latest date in the row; mentions in the row become participants and the title is the first cell that is not itself a date or a mention. Dates inside action items and decision items also become events. Titles are trimmed to 255 characters, and a date with no usable surrounding text is titled "Unknown".

A chip wrapped in a decision or a task still produces an event, and the item type travels with it to the calendar.

A date chip is inserted with Confluence's own date picker, so a page needs no Capable macro before a calendar can read it.

The words sitting beside the chip become the event title, and the person mentioned in the same paragraph becomes a participant.
